Welcome progress on equality
(30/09/09) UNISON welcomed the government's progress on the equalities bill today, with Wendy Nichols telling the Labour Party conference: "Although our slogan might be 'a Million Voices for public services', let me tell you – it's a million voices for equality as well."
Ms Nichols specifically welcomed yesterday's announcement from John Denham that there will be "a further round of capitalisation to help councils fund equal pay," adding that, where UNISON had won equal pay deals already, "it's made a huge difference – to people I know and their families."
And she concluded by telling fellow delegates: "We are unashamed in our demand: we don't want a fairer society – we want a FAIR society!"
